International Space Weather Camp
interested – apply!
2024/12/12
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) are searching students from the fields of mathematics, physics, informatics and engineering.
The International Space Weather Camp (ISWC), 29th June – 27th July 2025, is an opportunity for students from the US and Germany to learn about space physics in the context of meeting a very practical need.
The ISWC covers various aspects related to Space Weather, comprising cosmic ray particle transport theory, plasma physics, solar physics, heliospheric physics, computer simulations for modeling and
understanding local Space Weather, and the impact on Earth’s atmosphere, satellites, and space. The initial two-week period of the camp, spanning from 30 June to 13 July 2025, will be held at the
DLR site in Neustrelitz. The programme will concentrate on the effects of space weather on navigation systems and other technologies operating in near-Earth space. Following this, the students
will be guests at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA, from 14th to 27th July 2025. They will have the opportunity to learn about the theoretical principles underlying fundamental processes in plasmas, including those occurring in solar winds.
In addition to the lectures, students will engage in collaborative work in small teams on a range of projects, spanning from numerical data analysis to the construction of a satellite receiver.
The DLR and UAH will cover the costs associated with international travel, travel abroad, accommodation, and food. However, the student is responsible for paying for travel to the airport within Germany and the ESTA visa (approximately $21) for the USA.
Deadline for the application is the 02nd of February 2025.
