The main focus of this lecture is on the importance of product data management and its functions. Thereby, at first principles and methods of technical process organisation are introduced.

Allowed materials for the examination: none

Building on this, basic technologies and fundamental methods and processes of product data management are taught. The organizational requirements for the use of product data management systems (PDM systems) are also addressed. In addition, an overview of the architecture of PDM systems and the underlying database technologies is given. Practical application examples based on real PDM systems will also be shown to illustrate this.

The course Virtual Product Development B: Product Data Management (ViP-B) will be offered as a regular classroom course in summer term 2022. Depending on the (short-term) regulatory requirements regarding the pandemic, online teaching will be resorted to. In this case, the lecture will be digitally transmitted and supplemented by additional digital materials such as demonstrations and exercises.

Teaching will start in week 17 (from 25.04.2022) and will take place on the weekdays and times listed in the schedule (see TUCaN). The available room details for the individual dates in TUCaN represent the original presence planning and will be replaced by the online teaching if necessary.

The technical access to the online teaching takes place via Moodle. Here you will also find the link to the online transmission before the lecture. When you registered in TUCaN, you were automatically registered for the ViP-B-Moodle course as well. In case of problems in the Moodle course, please contact the supervising research assistant at vipb@dik.tu-darmstadt.de. You will then receive all further information via Moodle.
