Principles of CAE/CAD

The lecture "Principles of CAE / CAD" provides an introduction to virtual product development.

Location: L4|02 202 and Livestream

Time: On mondays from 15:20 until 16:50

Semester: winter semester

Beginning: 24.10.2022

Ending: 06.02.2023

Examination: expected 22.02.2022 from 12:00 until 13:30

The focus of the lecture is on computer-aided design and numerical calculation and simulation. First, the basics of geometric modelling and methods of computer-aided design are taught. In addition, the architectures of the CA system components, the process chains run through in the context of product creation and their use are explained. The CAD-CAE process chain is dealt with in detail. In addition to the weekly lecture, supervised exercises take place on five dates.

Lecture and exercise materials are provided via the e-learning platform Moodle.

In Moodle there are also:

  • Working materials such as script, slides and demonstrations
  • Tutorials with practical exercises on CAE/CAD with Siemens NX
  • Communication between students and between students and lecturers

The lecture is a compulsory course for students of Computational Engineering.

Learning objectives are:

  • Knowledge of CAx process chains
  • Knowledge of the architectures of CAx systems
  • Understanding of the basics of geometric modelling
  • Understanding of the basics of simulation and modelling
  • Introduction to the management of product and simulation data
  • Knowledge of computer-aided methods for the conception, design, optimisation, presentation and documentation of products
