Design and construction of a segmented blank holder for deep drawing of paper

Paper-based packaging, such as those produced by deep drawing, enables a reduction in the use of plastic-based packaging. Adapting the process widely used in metal forming to paper poses challenges due to the low flow behavior and pronounced anisotropy. The use of a segmented blank holder reveals extended possibilities for influencing the process. Within the scope of the work, a segmented blank holder is to be qualified numerically and experimentally for suitability in the deep drawing of paper.
The following work packages are to be processed for this purpose, which can best be discussed and, if necessary, adapted in a personal meeting:
- Familiarization with the state of the art for deep drawing of paper and segmented blank holders
- Numerically supported design of a segmented blank holder system with a focus on the segment transitions
- Design of a segmented blank holder with pneumatic cylinders
- Investigation of the effect of different load profiles of the segments on e.g. wrinkle pattern and anisotropic springback
