The surface topography of tools and workpieces has a significant influence on friction and lubrication in cold forging.

The aim of this thesis is to develop and validate experimental methods for the targeted, reproducible preparation of tool and workpiece surfaces in the laboratory.

The following work packages are possible, the specific task will be developed in a joint discussion:

• Familiarisation with the tribology of cold forging and surface treatment
• Optical measurement of the surface topography of existing tools
• Development and validation of methods for the targeted generation of defined surface topographies in the laboratory
• Investigation of the influence of surface topography on friction in experimental friction tests
