Dr.-Ing. Christian Steinmetz

Contact

Christian Steinmetz completed his bachelor in Computational Engineering majoring in Computer Science at the TU Darmstadt in 2011. He continued his studies in the master program of Computational Engineering majoring in Computer Science at the TU Darmstadt, which he completed in 2013.

Since October 2013 he joined the Department of Computer Integrated Design at the TU Darmstadt.

In winter semester 2013/14 Mr. Steinmetz supervised the basis lecture “Fundamentals of Data Processing” in the bachelor program as well as the accompanying exercise “Programming Languages and Techniques”. In the lecture “Fundamentals of Data Processing” the students learn the mathematical, technical and information technological concepts of the electronic data processing. In the accompanying exercise “Programming Languages and Techniques” the students learn how to deal with data structures and algorithms using the script language MATLAB in a practical way.

In summer semester 2014, he revised the lecture “Fundamentals of Data Processing” into the new bachelor 3.0 lecture “information and communication technology in mechanical engineering”, which give the students insights into aspects of Industrie 4.0 and web services besides the introduction into electronic data processing. He also revised the accompanying exercise “Programming Languages and Techniques”, so that the students learn in a practical way to access existing web services using MATLAB.

In winter semester 2014/15 Mr. Steinmetz supervised the basis lecture “information and communication technology in mechanical engineering” in the bachelor program as well as the accompanying exercise “Programming Languages and Techniques”.

Industrie 4.0

One research area of Mr. Steinmetz is the area of Industrie 4.0. He developed the Industrie 4.0 App, which is a demonstrator for future production. A central element of the Industrie 4.0 App is the automatic identification of parts, which allows a retrieval of further part correlated information.

Web Services

The second research area of Mr. Steinmetz is the deployment of web services in product development and production. In his paper he developed a prototypical implementation for the access on product data and product documents using RESTful web services in 2014.

Project with Deutsche Bahn

Mr. Steinmetz supervised the project with Deutsche Bahn.

CeBIT 2016

Mr. Steinmetz was present on CeBIT 2016 at the stand C11 of Software AG in hall 4. He presented an improvement of the results of the research project COMMANDD. Further informations

EVIPRODENT

Mr. Steinmetz supervised the project EVIPRODENT. Further information can be found here.

MYTHOS

Mr. Steinmetz supervises the project MYTHOS.

Geometric Algebra

Geometric Algebra is a mathematical framework, which enables an intuitive way for solving geometrical problems. For this, a complicated geometrical 3D-problem will be expressed in a high dimensional (5D) space using simple operations. These operations can be transformed to simple lower dimensional mathematical operations. Using this, the geometrical problem can be solved by ordinary computing machines.

Mr. Steinmetz is an active developer of the open source software Gaalop. Gaalop is a geometric algebra compiler, which transforms the high dimensional description of the geometrical problem into lower dimensional mathematical operations. In his bachelor thesis, Mr. Steinmetz introduces a table-based approach in a geometrical algebra compiler. This approach results in a faster transformation of the high dimensional description of the geometrical problem into lower dimensional mathematical operations. Furthermore he developed a method for optimizing the source code, which is produced by the geometrical algebra compiler, for parallel computing architectures. In his master thesis, Mr. Steinmetz examines new geometrical algebras by developing and integrating a novel visualization tool into a geometric algebra compiler. This visualization tool enables a visualization of geometrical elements of arbitrary geometric algebra using a minimum of preceding knowledge on the concrete geometric algebra.
