Dr.-Ing. Erdal Tantik

Contact

Erdal Tantik completed his Bachelor and Master degree in Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt from 2008 to 2013. The focus of his studies was on software development and production processes. In 2014 he took up a position as a research assistant at the Department of Computer Integrated Design (DiK).

Erdal Tantik worked for four semesters at the Training Center for Information Processing in Mechanical Engineering (IiM) and supervised the lectures Information and Communication Technology in Mechanical Engineering and Programming Languages and Techniques. In the context of these lectures, the mechanical engineering students in the Bachelor's program were taught the basics of data processing, software development and network communication. The theory taught was put into practice in the subsequent tutorials using Matlab and Simulink.

In 2015 and 2016, Mr. Tantik, as representative of the DiK, developed and directed a new lecture for the master's degree program in mechanical engineering together with the Institute for Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools (PTW) entitled Interconnected Product Creation Processes. The aim of this course is to teach methods for product development and process design. For this purpose, the individual development phases from the product idea to serial production were described and the corresponding tools, models and software systems were presented.

Following his teaching activities, Mr. Tantik was involved for three years in the national reference project for IT security in industry 4.0 IUNO. His research focus in this project was the development of secure interfaces for remote maintenance of production facilities across company and national borders. Using practice-oriented demonstrators and taking into account the requirements for interconnected industrial plants, different scenarios were developed. In these scenarios, on the one hand, the integration of plants using conventional technologies was simulated and, on the other hand, the automation of remote maintenance using new technologies, which were still in the development phase, was examined.

Since 2018, Mr. Tantik has been managing the projects for the Mittelstand 4.0 Competence Center Darmstadt on behalf of the DiK in the areas of efficiency increase through digital product data, cloud computing and IT security. The aim of the competence center is to provide further training and consulting as well as in-company implementations to enable small and medium-sized companies the way to digitalization.
