Double Degree
Tongji University in Shanghai

General Information

There is a close partnership between the Tongji University Shanghai and the TU Darmstadt. Due to Tongji's high level of internationality and the diverse exchange with Germany, a large proportion of courses in the Master's programme are offered in German or English, therefore an examination in Chinese is not required. As part of the Master's degree examination plan, the requirements of both universities for the Master's degree are taken into account, thus after successfully completing the programme, students acquire both the M.Sc. degree from the TU Darmstadt and the M.Sc. degree from Tongji University. Students have the unique opportunity to familiarise themselves intensively with the culture and language of a country that is very dynamic both economically and socially. As a result, students are able to expand their professional and social skills at the same time.

Course of Studies

As part of this double Master's programme, students of mechanical engineering have the opportunity to study at the Tongji University for three semesters, write their Master's thesis there, and complete their 12-week industrial internship. Within five semesters, the double degree students can obtain degrees from both universities.

Application Requirements

Application deadline:

We recommend applying in the third, (fifth at the latest) Bachelor's semester so that the stay abroad takes place from the third Master's semester onwards.

The following requirements are placed on participants in the programme:

  • Above-average academic performance
  • Extracurricular commitment and social competence
  • The Bachelor's degree should be completed at least one, but preferably two semesters before the start of the stay abroad.
  • Fundamental interest in vehicle technology and production engineering issues
  • Interest in Chinese culture and language
  • Willingness to prepare a final report on the experience gained at the end of the programme
  • Alignment of the Master's curriculum with the requirements of the double Master's programme

Funding Opportunities & Finances
