The increasing complexity of technical products, shorter development cycles, and rising sustainability requirements are driving the need for greater automation in product development. In this context, generative design methods are gaining significance. While conventional topology optimization techniques, such as the SIMP algorithm, are effective at identifying structurally optimal solutions under defined loads, they often lack efficiency and sensitivity when it comes to integrating complex design constraints.
Artificial intelligence and metamodels offer a promising approach to determining the solution space of complex design tasks with comparably low computational effort and to determine a constructive optimum. In topology optimisation in particular, there are promising approaches aimed at largely automated, AI-supported product development.
