Student assistant for simulations using NN-based material models
2025/05/12
Student Assistant (Mechanical Engineering / Mechanics / Computational Engineering / Civil Engineering) Start: Immediately (July 2025)

At the Cyber-Physical Simulation institute, we are researching on the development of advanced numerical methods and modeling approaches for nonlinear, multiscale, and multiphysics problems in mechanical engineering.
The student assistant position will support research into material models based on artificial neural networks (NNs) for structural elements, i.e., beams and shells.
Your potential tasks:
- Building simulation models to evaluate NN-based material models
- Implementing NN-based models in finite element software
- Calibrating NN-based material models
- Data analysis / visualization / literature research
We offer:
- Flexible working hours that can be easily combined with your studies
- Option to complete a thesis after completing your student assistantship
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of elasticity theory and FE simulations with Abaqus/FEAP
- Programming experience in Python (C/C++ or Fortran desirable)
- Interest in structural simulations and programming
- Interest in long-term collaboration
