Niklas Quernheim studied Mechanical and Process Engineering (MPE) at Darmstadt Technical University until May 2021, graduating with a Master of Science degree. During his Master’s thesis he developed a method for knowledge-based connection of IoT-platforms and PDM systems to optimize resource efficiency.
Since July 2021 Mr. Quernheim works as a scientific assistant at the Department of Computer Integrated Design at the Technical University Darmstadt.
Since summer semester 2022 Mr. Quernheim supervises the lecture “Virtual Product Development B” (ViP B) in the master’s program. This lecture focusses on the fundamentals and the importance of product data management as well as on introducing common methods and functions of product data management systems.
Since the start of the project in July 2021, Mr. Quernheim has been researching digital assistance systems and assessment methods for sustainable product development as part of DiNaPro.
The research project “DiNaPro – Model-based digitalization of sustainable production networks along the product life cycle” is a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The goal is to optimize environmental sustainability in the product creation process by means of a uniform data model and data exchange format in the form of an integral digital twin technology. Over a period of three years, assistance systems will be developed to improve the quality of decision-making in various use cases. A particular focus will be on increasing environmental and social sustainability.
The research consortium is led by DiK and includes the Institute for Produktionsmanagement, Technologie und Werkzeugmaschinen (PTW), the development partners in-integrierte informationssysteme GmbH, etalytics GmbH and DSC Software AG as well as the application partners Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, Munsch Chemie-Pumpen GmbH and Opel Automobile GmbH.
