Interlinked Product Creation Processes

The lecture Interlinked Product Creation Processes teaches students of the Master's program that processes are omnipresent in engineering sciences and play a decisive role in product creation.

The VPEP module is no longer offered

The module Interconnected Product Creation Processes (VPEP) is no longer offered within the current study program and will be replaced by “Digitalisierung in der Produktion” (Digitization in Production). Participation in the exam is therefore only possible for students who have already registered.

This lecture is for students of the master program, which imparts the fact that processes are ubiquitous in mechanical engineering. Processes are a key success factor, especially in product development. Within the scope of the lecture, characteristic processes are identified based on process theory, and a reference model for product development and specific methods are presented to meet the process objectives. Students should be able to understand the processes in product development. They should be familiar with the main work methods, and they should develop skills to recognize the progress in processes and to control process flow. Process modeling -analysis -simulation and optimization are important competencies that have to be mastered.

Learning targets:

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

  • Describe the product creation process
  • Identify process aims and specify expected process results systematically
  • Configure sub-processes and the link between them
  • Apply methods of process modelling, analysis, simulation, and optimization
  • Evaluate acquired process results.
