Cold rolling of I-beams is a new innovative process for manufacturing branched profiles, which previously could only be produced by hot rolling. Cold rolling of I-beams saves energy and achieves high surface qualities and strengths.

In order to become competitive with hot-rolled I-beams in all respects, it is necessary to further optimize both the forming process and the final product.

The aims of the thesis are:

  • Simulation-based development of strategies for profile forming
  • Testing of the strategies in simulation and on a variety of rolling mills in the test field
  • Testing of components for damage and load-bearing capacity
