The project “Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Darmstadt” was launched in September 2021. In the project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), a total of seven partners from science are combining their know-how on digitization and networking. The consortium partners from the TU Darmstadt include the Department of Product Life Cycle Management, the Institutes of Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools (PTW), of Production Engineering and Forming Machines (PtU) and of Ergonomics & Human Factors (IAD). In addition, there are the Fraunhofer Institutes for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) and for Structural Durability and System Reliability (LBF) as well as the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
Knowledge nuggets
The PLCM has been supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation for many years with the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Darmstadt. As part of this, information materials are continuously developed and made available in a variety of forms. One example of this is knowledge nuggets in the form of short videos that explain the relevant topics concisely and in a way that is appropriate for the target group.

The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Darmstadt is the central point of contact for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Hesse and beyond. With free, practice-oriented offers, the center supports SMEs in digitization. The range of services extends from initial information and orientation, through qualification and further training, to support in the implementation of practical solutions. The focus is on the topics of “platform-based value creation,” “data-based services,” “human-centric digital work design,” “IT and data security,” “CO2-neutral value creation” and "artificial intelligence. The PLCM participates in the center's offerings in this regard with various offerings such as workshops, expert discussions, road shows, quick checks, knowledge nuggets and implementation projects.
The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Darmstadt is part of the Mittelstand Digital Network, which provides comprehensive support for digitization with the Mittelstand Digital Centers, the Transferstelle IT-Sicherheit im Mittelstand and Digital Jetzt. Small and medium-sized enterprises benefit from specific practical examples and tailored, vendor-neutral offers for qualification and IT security.
