New research opportunity @ STFS — Postdoc in DNS and HPC (starting 2026)

Postdoc position at STFS

04.11.2025

Topic: Hot-gas / cooling-air interaction in non-reactive flows over film-cooled turbine nozzle guide vanes (NGVs). See attached images.

I’m looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join our team at Simulation of Reactive Thermo-Fluid Systems (STFS), TU Darmstadt, to take the next step in their academic career.

The topic: Hot-gas / cooling-air interaction in non-reactive flows over film-cooled turbine nozzle guide vanes (NGVs). See attached images.

Scientific goal

To improve understanding of the thermodynamic and aerodynamic effects of hot-gas flows on film-cooled turbine components and to develop LES wall models that capture these effects reliably. Selected DNS will be performed for complex boundary layers, providing reference data for wall-resolved and wall-modeled LES. This work is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and conducted in collaboration with Rolls-Royce in Berlin.

What we are looking for

A researcher with proven expertise in DNS and HPC. Our DNS work uses PeleLMeX and nekRS / nekCRF. The position is for 2 years, with possible extension based on mutual interest and project progress.

Why join us?

Work in a vibrant, international team at the intersection of turbomachinery and thermofluid science. The successful applicant will be embedded in a unique environment (together with Reaktive Strömungen und Messtechnik, TU Darmstadt) with more than 60 researchers working on reactive and non-reactive flows.
