  • Vertical non-premixed Boundary Layer Flame (BLF) along a wall.
  • Injection of Methane (and DMMP) through an inlet wall on near-wall flame configurations, considering both single-slot and multiple-slot scenarios.
  • Validate experimental measurements, including OH-radical fluorescence and wall temperature, through numerical simulations using detailed chemistry for the BLF.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the near wall flame dynamics.
  • Numerical simulations to analyse the effect of phosphorus-based flame retardants (and other relevant retardants like DEPP,DIMP) on the vertical non-premixed BLF.
On the left, Cross-section of SWQ burner wall and secondary inlet. Premixed v-flame (light blue) stabilized on ceramic rod, the diffusive flame (dark blue) is 10 mm above the quenching point. The incident laser-sheet in purple, with field of view corresponding closely to the 2D numerical subdomain. Comparison of normalized OH signals (experiment vs. simulation) showing detected OH-maximum marked in white (exp.) and grey (sim.). Columns demonstrate the impact of increasing inflow from the active wall.

  • Laminar combustion model simulations (2D) in OpenFOAM
    • DLBFoam used for dynamic load balancing for fast reactive simulations
    • stfs-dc-FOAM (code) for detailed chemistry simulations (openfoam v2006)
    • Cantera used for calculation of the species diffusion coefficients according to a mixture averaged transport approach.
