The research at the STFS is characterized by a close integration of basic research and applied research. In the area of basic research, mathematical models for flame structures, particle combustion, flame-acoustic coupling and numerical methods for solving population balance equations are developed.
These models and methods are implemented in CFD codes such as OpenFOAM and validated by means of experiments. In this area, there is close cooperation with the research group (Prof. Dreizler) and a large number of national and international partners. Reactive Flows and Diagnostics
In the field of applied research, the models are transferred to complex problems such as aircraft engines, industrial furnaces and chemical reactors. In this area, we also work together with a large number of partners from science and industry.

We offer ongoing opportunities to work on our research projects as a doctoral candidate or postdoc. If you are interested in our research area and would like to work in our young and dynamic team, we look forward to receiving your unsolicited application, which you can send directly to Prof. Dr. Christian Hasse at any time.
As a candidate you should ideally have experience in:
- programming, especially C++ and/or Fortran
- Unix based operating systems, e.g. Linux
- interest and first experiences in simulation, especially numerical thermo-fluid dynamics
