You have completed your bachelor's degree at another university and are now starting your master's programme M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering with us? Here you can find information for a successful start to your studies.

Study starts well with these modules

Your Bachelor's programme introduced you to the world of Mechanical Engineering and prepared you well for your Master's programme. We would like to offer you a combination of different modules to help you adjust quickly to your studies, find your way around the new campus and meet your fellow students. The modules will also support you in creating your study plan using TUCaN.

  • Online Moodle course ‘Start Programme M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering’: with all the important documents and information you need to start your studies.
    (Available as soon as you enrol)
  • Kick-off meeting with important information on study planning and organisation in the M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering programme: your ‘Master's Orientation Day’
    (Zoom meeting before you start your studies)
  • MasterPlus programme: your personal contact to experienced mechanical engineering students
    (Support and advice for international students from the time of admission by email, later also on site)
  • Master's Orientation Unit (MOU) of the Mechanical Engineering Student Council – get to know the campus and your fellow students on site
    (Activities on campus before you start your studies)
  • Information and counselling resources from the department and the university

The online course “Startprogramm; M.Sc. Maschinenbau” is offered via the learning platform Moodle of TU Darmstadt. This platform also provides many learning materials for your Master courses.

In the online course, you will receive information on how to create your timetable for the first semester, tips on planning and organising your studies, as well as information on examination regulations and how to use TUCaN. Also the topic catch-up modules (Auflagen), according to your letter of admission, is covered.

The course will be available from 1. of September for the winter semester and from 1. of March for the summer semester,

  • The login to Moodle is via TU-ID. To have access to the Moodle course you have to activate your TU-ID. If you need assistance, you can find tips and help for Moodle registration here.
  • After logging in to Moodle, you can find the online course “Startprogramm M.Sc. Maschinenbau” at the following link: https://moodle.tu-darmstadt.de/course/view.php?id=33099
  • You find the password for the course access in your admission letter.
  • If you have already completed your bachelor's degree at TU Darmstadt, you will receive an email with the access data for the Moodle course approximately one week before the kick-off date.

We warmly invite you to the Kick-off meeting on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 9:30am-1:30pm for your orientation course “Startprogramm M.Sc. Maschinenbau” (course language: german).

All students with an admission will receive an invitation with a Zoom link by email approximately one week before the Zoom event.

Benefit from the experiences of your Buddies

From the moment you are admitted, you can receive support and guidance from buddies as an international Master's student. Buddies are experienced Master's students who are also enrolled in the M.Sc. Aerospace Engineering or M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering programmes.

They offer you personal support on site, in Zoom calls and by email to help you find your way around the Department of Mechanical Engineering and TU Darmstadt – and also give you helpful insights into student life in Darmstadt.

During your first semester, you can also benefit from the offered‘Potential Workshops’ on study organisation and exam preparation, which are tailored to your situation.

The buddies will help you find the information you need or put you in touch with the right contact person. This also applies to topics beyond your studies, such as accommodation and visas.

International students who have recently transferred to TU Darmstadt will receive a personal welcome email after receiving their admission and before lectures begin.

Join the Master Orientation Unit (MOU) to get to know your fellow students, explore the campus and the city, and ease into your studies. The MOU is organized by your Mechanical Engineering Student Council (“Fachschaft Maschinenbau”).
