This study aims at providing empirically-based findings on opportunities and risks of international cooperation between companies and institutions in the area of Industrie 4.0. There is a particular focus on cooperation regarding 'research and development' as well as 'norms and standards'. The study is designed to be country-specific by conducting expert interviews in Germany, UK, China, Japan, South Korea and the United States, as well as organisation-specific, by examining organisations, institutions and networks which are key players in the setting of international standards. As a result this study offers guidelines for politics, industry and associations on how to design international cooperation in the context of Industrie 4.0.
