MYTHOS

MYTHOS is a BMBF funded research project in which an automated, hybrid process for additive manufacturing of multicolored veneered dentures is being developed.

Recently a great amount of the manufacturing of aesthetic dentures is hand-made. For this, a high-strength dental scaffold of ceramics or metal is milled. Afterwards multiple color-adjusted blinding layers are applied. A great potential for improvement is provided by the additive manufacturing technology.

Goals

Goal of the research project MYTHOS is the development of an automated process for the additive manufacturing of multi-colored blindings of dental scaffold materials. Care must be taken that the results are transformable to further industry fields. The costs for the manufacture of aesthetic dentures can be reduced by the application of an automated process and the production cycles can be shortened. Furthermore, the precision in production is improved. The task of the department of computer-integrated design in the research project MYTHOS is the conception of the computer processible data structures, algorithms and the digital process chain in order to enable an application of the automated process for the manufacture of aesthetic dentures.

MYTHOS is funded by the federal Ministry of Education and Research. The project consortium includes the companies imes-icore GmbH, Form for Function Fräszentrum GmbH, Schott Systeme GmbH, VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG, Kegelmann Technik GmbH, Institute of Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools of Technische Universität Darmstadt and the department of computer integrated design of Technische Universität Darmstadt. The project duration is 3 years (2017/01/01 until 12/31/2019)
